Simon Vows To Buy A Dog For ‘Young Male Celine Dion’ After 13-Year-Old Gives Flawless Audition
Jeffrey Li, 13, stepped onto the America’s Got Talent stage with the confidence of a seasoned singer. Judge Simon Cowell quickly picked up on the boy’s readiness to take his talent all the way to the end of the competition, so he asked Jeffrey what he’d do with the $1 million grand prize should he win season 13.
“I’m an only child, so I’d love a companion, a dog,” said Jeffrey. More specifically, he wanted a German shepherd. So Simon (a well-known animal lover) made Jeffrey a very intriguing deal. If Jeffrey pulled off a great audition and impressed him with his singing, he would buy him a dog. He even agreed they’d choose the dog together.
That’s when Jeffrey belted out his version of “You Raise Me Up,” a ballad made famous by several vocalists, including Josh Groban. Everyone in the room was so floored that by end of his performance, they were cheering and giving him a standing ovation.
Howie Mandel likened Jeffrey to a “a young male Celine Dion.” Mel B said he sounded like an angel. “Jeffrey, I think you might be getting a puppy from Simon,” Heidi Klum said.
And then Jeffrey got the news he’d been hoping for. “I’m gonna keep my promise,” Simon said. “Not only have you got four yeses, you’ve got yourself a new dog.”
